During the Foot and Mouth epidemic of 2001, all footpaths crossing agricultural land in Buckinghamshire were closed. Woodland was undisturbed during the breeding season and birds nested in places they would not normally nest.
As part of a project with the Woodland Trust I collected these old disused nests and replaced them with ceramic nests. Twelve nests were placed along the footpath in Adams Wood. Some were hidden, almost impossible to see, others rested in the crooks of branches or in clefts of the tree. Several disappeared almost immediately, others suffered from frost damage over the winter. Four years on only one remains
